Early years educator cover letter example

Crèche directors and town hall recruiters want to understand how you see the EJE's role in a team: what you observe, how you guide colleagues and how you work with parents.

A letter that explains one project or one situation with a family will stand out.

Subject: Application for an éducatrice de jeunes enfants position, [Crèche name]

Dear [Hiring Manager's name],

I am applying for the éducatrice de jeunes enfants position at [Crèche name]. I obtained the DEEJE in [year] and have since worked at [Previous crèche], a [x]-place multi-accueil in [City], where I share the educational coordination with the director.

My work starts with observation. Last year, the team noticed many conflicts among the older toddlers late in the morning. After two weeks of observation, we saw that the room offered too few motor activities at that time. We installed a climbing structure and split the group into smaller spaces. The conflicts eased and the team felt more available to the children.

I meet families regularly, at the settling-in period and when a question arises about sleep, language or behaviour. When a concern is serious, I prepare the meeting with the director and, with the parents' agreement, contact the PMI or the CAMSP.

Your crèche's project on outdoor play and its partnership with the local library match what I want to develop. I can send you the summary of my DEEJE dissertation on free motor development if it is useful before we meet.

Best regards,[First name Last name][Phone number]

Frequently asked questions

Should I write differently for a municipal crèche?

The content stays the same, but address the letter to the mayor or HR and mention the grade if the ad gives one. Public employers often recruit EJEs on contract before they pass the civil service exam, so say whether you hold the grade or not.

Can I mention approaches like Montessori or Pikler?

Yes, if you have used them and can explain how. Many crèches refer to them in their project. Avoid presenting yourself as a specialist after a short training course; describe what you put in place instead.

Should I attach my dissertation?

No. Mention the title and the main idea in one sentence if it relates to the post. You can bring a copy to the interview in case the director shows interest in it.
