Early years educator resume example

An éducateur de jeunes enfants (EJE) is the early childhood specialist of a French crèche team, trained to degree level. Unlike nursery assistants, who spend most of their time on care routines, the EJE designs the educational side of the day.

You observe how children play, move and relate to each other, then adjust the layout of rooms and propose activities: free motor play, reading, music, outdoor exploration. You support colleagues in their practice, lead team meetings and write parts of the educational project. Families come to you with questions about sleep, tantrums or language, and you meet parents when there is a concern about a child's development. Many EJEs become deputy or crèche directors, or run a relais petite enfance supporting childminders.

Summaries for your profile

Entry level

Newly qualified éducatrice de jeunes enfants (DEEJE, [year]) with placements in a multi-accueil, a relais petite enfance and a CAMSP. My final project focused on free motor development, and I want to put observation at the centre of daily work in a crèche team.

Experienced

EJE with [x] years in a [x]-place crèche, where I lead the educational project with the director. I run team meetings, organise activity planning and meet families when we notice a developmental difficulty. I have supported the inclusion of several children with disabilities.

Career change

Former primary school teacher abroad, now qualified as an EJE in France. I bring experience of planning learning for groups and talking to parents, and I want to focus on children under three, whose development I find more open and less driven by the curriculum.

Tips

  • Put 'DEEJE' and the year in the headline or under your name: it is the first thing recruiters check.
  • Name the educational approaches you have used, such as Pikler or Montessori-inspired practices, if real.
  • Show coordination tasks clearly, since many EJE posts include deputy manager duties.
  • List partners you have worked with: PMI, CAMSP, RPE, social services.
  • Mention your final dissertation topic if it relates to the post.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Describing only care routines, which makes you look like a nursery assistant.
  • Using theory names without saying what you did in practice.
  • Forgetting to mention experience with families.

Working as an early years educator in France

Search for éducateur or éducatrice de jeunes enfants, EJE, EJE directrice adjointe, or animatrice de relais petite enfance (RPE, formerly RAM). The role requires the Diplôme d'État d'éducateur de jeunes enfants (DEEJE), a three-year course at degree level prepared in a social work school, including long placements. In the public sector, EJEs are recruited on the territorial grade of the same name, by competitive exam or on contract. Foreign early childhood or teaching degrees do not give automatic access to the DEEJE; a recognition procedure exists for some EU qualifications, and partial exemptions may apply. Employers check criminal records, and fluent French is needed to work with families and write reports.

Frequently asked questions

My early childhood degree is from another country. Can I apply for EJE posts?

You can apply, but crèches usually require the French DEEJE or a recognised equivalent. Check whether a recognition procedure applies to your degree; otherwise, consider training in a French social work school. Meanwhile, some employers hire foreign graduates on assistant posts.

Should I list my placements?

Yes, as a newly qualified EJE. The training includes long placements in different settings, and recruiters want to know which ones. Give the type of structure, the age group and one project you led during each placement.

How do I show management skills without the title?

Describe the tasks: leading meetings, planning the team's schedule, welcoming new staff, replacing the director. These tasks prepare you for deputy or director roles, and recruiters look for them even on a simple EJE post.
