Courier cover letter example

Delivery companies and their subcontractors often hire fast, sometimes without a letter. When one is asked, the depot manager checks three things: valid licence, reliability and attitude with customers.

A few short paragraphs that prove these with examples are enough.

Subject: Application: Delivery Driver (Livreur), [Company], [City]

Dear [Recruiter's Name],

I am writing about the delivery driver job at your [City] depot. I have held a licence B for [x] years and I have spent the last two years delivering parcels in a van for a subcontractor of a national carrier, on a round covering the city centre and nearby suburbs.

My day starts at the depot, where I scan my parcels and load the van in the order of my round. I then deliver to private customers, shops and relay points, with proof of delivery on the handheld terminal. In buildings with digital codes or no name on the letterbox, I call the customer beforehand, which avoids second attempts and complaints. In the afternoon I collect parcels from business customers and return undelivered items before the end of the day.

I know [City] and its delivery restrictions well, including the low-emission zone and the pedestrian streets with fixed delivery hours. I am available for early starts and Saturdays.

I can start with a trial day whenever you wish.

Kind regards,[First Name Last Name]

Frequently asked questions

Is a cover letter needed for a delivery job?

Often not. Many depots hire through agencies or online forms with only a resume. If you send a message, keep it to a few sentences about your licence, experience and availability. A short call to the depot can work as well as a letter.

What if I have penalty points on my licence?

Do not lie. You do not have to mention it in the letter, but employers may check your licence status. If you have recovered points or followed an awareness course, you can say so in interview to show you take it seriously.

How do I apply as a self-employed courier?

For platforms, you usually register online as a micro-entrepreneur, with no letter. For subcontracting to a carrier, a short presentation of your experience, vehicle and insurance helps. Check the conditions carefully, because self-employed couriers pay their own social contributions and costs.
