Courier resume example

A livreur in France usually means a delivery driver on a van round, though the word also covers bike couriers and furniture deliverers. A parcel delivery day starts at the depot before sunrise: you collect your parcels, scan them into the handheld terminal and load the van in the order of your round.

Then you drive the route, find parking in narrow streets, deliver to homes, shops and parcel lockers, and get a signature or photo as proof of delivery. When nobody answers, you leave a notice or drop the parcel at a relay point. In the afternoon you may collect parcels from business customers before returning to the depot to hand back undelivered items and cash. Furniture and appliance deliverers work in pairs and also carry goods inside and sometimes install them.

Working as a courier in France

No diploma is required. A licence B is needed for vans up to 3.5 tonnes; heavier vehicles require a C1 or C licence and the FIMO training, renewed through the FCO every five years. Many delivery drivers work for subcontractors of parcel carriers, while food and bike couriers often work as micro-entrepreneurs through platforms, with their own social contributions. Some employers provide a short initial training. Cities are adding low-emission zones and delivery time rules, which affect rounds. Basic French helps with customers and notices. Search for « livreur », « chauffeur livreur », « livreur VL » or « coursier ».

Frequently asked questions

Can I work as a courier with a foreign driving licence?

A licence from an EU or EEA country is valid in France. A licence from outside the EU is generally recognised for one year after you become resident, then must be exchanged if your country has an agreement with France. Check on the ANTS website, because employers need a valid licence for insurance.

Do I need a heavy vehicle licence for delivery jobs?

No for most parcel jobs, which use vans up to 3.5 tonnes and only need licence B. Larger trucks need licence C or C1 and the FIMO professional training. Some furniture delivery jobs use heavier vehicles, so check the ad.

Should I mention bike delivery on my resume?

Yes. It shows you know the city, work in all weather and deal with customers. If you worked as a self-employed rider for platforms, say so and present it like any other experience, with the areas and type of orders.
