Bartender cover letter example

Bar managers want to know whether you will fit behind their counter: the style of drinks, the pace of the room and the type of guests. Use your letter to show you know their bar, describe your technique and service, and mention your availability.

Keep the tone friendly but professional.

Subject: Application for Bartender position, [Bar name]

Dear [Manager's name],

I am applying for the bartender position at [Bar name]. I have been to your bar several times and I like how your menu highlights French spirits, especially the calvados and cognac cocktails. I make my own fruit syrups and have been working on calvados in stirred drinks, so your bar is where I would most like to put that to use.

I have [x] years of experience behind the bar, most recently at [Bar] in [City], a cocktail bar that fills up quickly from Thursday to Saturday. I prepare classic and signature cocktails, make our syrups and infusions, and work at speed without cutting corners on measures. Last year I created a seasonal menu of [x] drinks with the head bartender, two of which stayed on the permanent list.

I also handle the weekly inventory and supplier orders, and I am used to closing the bar alone, including cash-up. I speak English and French, which helps with the many international guests in this part of town.

I am available Thursday to Sunday nights, and on a trial shift I can make a few of your classics or one of my own drinks.

Kind regards,[First Name Last Name][Phone] | [Email]

Frequently asked questions

Should I mention the permis d'exploitation?

Only if you hold it. In France, this training certificate is required for the person who runs a licensed venue, not for bartenders. Holding it is still a plus if you apply for a head bartender or bar manager role, or for a café-bar where the owner wants someone able to take over later.

Should I mention my mixology course?

Yes, with the name of the school and what it covered. Managers know the main programmes. Combine it with real service experience: technique matters, but so does handling a full bar and difficult guests, which only practice shows.

How do I talk about creativity?

Mention a specific drink or menu you created, the ingredients and how it fitted the bar's concept. Bar managers want creativity that serves their menu and can be repeated by the team, not only complex creations that take too long during service.
