Aircraft mechanic cover letter example

In aircraft maintenance, the cover letter needs to show your licence, your aircraft types and your understanding of the safety culture. MRO companies, airlines and manufacturers want technicians who follow procedures and report problems, so a short letter with concrete examples works better than generic motivation.

Subject: Application: B1 line maintenance technician, [Company], [Airport]

Dear [Manager's Name],

I am applying for the B1 line maintenance technician position at [Airport]. I hold a Part-66 B1 licence with an [aircraft type] type rating and have worked for [x] years at [Company], where I hold certifying privileges on transit and daily checks.

My shifts involve turnarounds of [x] minutes on average, defect rectification reported by crews and coordination with maintenance control for deferred items. Last month, I found a hydraulic leak during a transit check; by checking the troubleshooting manual and coordinating with the operations team, we replaced the faulty seal and released the aircraft with a short delay rather than cancelling the flight. I documented the event so the fleet team could track it.

Your fleet growth at [Airport] interests me, and I would like to extend my type ratings to [aircraft type]. I am available for night and weekend shifts and hold an airside driving permit.

I am available for a technical interview or a practical test in your hangar.

Yours sincerely,[First Name Last Name]

Frequently asked questions

Should a mechanic without a licence write a cover letter?

Yes, especially for apprenticeship or trainee posts. Explain your diploma or training course, the work you did under supervision and when you plan to sit the Part-66 modules. Employers often support licence progression.

Is a cover letter in English acceptable?

Manuals are in English, but most French employers expect French for administration and team communication. Write in French unless the advert is in English. Mention your technical English level, since reading manuals and service bulletins is part of every shift.

What example should I give?

Choose a defect you diagnosed, a heavy check task you completed or an error you reported. Explain the steps you followed and the outcome. A recruiter wants to see procedure and judgement, not heroics.
