Working as a speech and language therapist in France
Orthophoniste is a regulated health profession in France. You need the Certificat de capacité d'orthophoniste, a five-year university programme, or an authorisation to practise if you trained abroad, including as a logopède in Belgium or Switzerland. Treatment is prescribed by a doctor and reimbursed by the Assurance maladie, and most orthophonistes work in private practice. Near-native French is required since assessments are standardised in French. Search for « orthophoniste », « orthophoniste remplaçant », « orthophoniste salarié » or « orthophoniste en libéral ».
How to read these figures
The salary shown is an average, not a median: a few high salaries pull the average up. It is net pay before income tax, converted to full time.
The gross figure is an estimate: it applies 2026 employee contributions for a private-sector worker to the net salary. It leaves out bonuses, overtime and health insurance.
Salaries are from 2024 while the minimum wage is the 2026 one, so the comparison gives an order of magnitude.
