Working as a physiotherapist in France

Physiotherapy is regulated in France. You need the Diplôme d'État de masseur-kinésithérapeute, obtained after a first university year and training in an IFMK institute, or an authorisation to practise if you trained abroad, then registration with the Ordre des masseurs-kinésithérapeutes. Most patients arrive with a doctor's prescription, but the choice of techniques and the number of sessions follow your own assessment, and direct access is opening up in coordinated practice settings. Starting in private practice as a locum is common. Search for « masseur-kinésithérapeute », « kinésithérapeute », « kiné remplaçant » or « kiné collaborateur ».

How to read these figures

The salary shown is an average, not a median: a few high salaries pull the average up. It is net pay before income tax, converted to full time.

The gross figure is an estimate: it applies 2026 employee contributions for a private-sector worker to the net salary. It leaves out bonuses, overtime and health insurance.

Salaries are from 2024 while the minimum wage is the 2026 one, so the comparison gives an order of magnitude.
