Working as a retail stock associate in France
Look for employé libre-service (ELS), employé de rayon or employé commercial; the last title is common in large chains. No diploma is legally required, and the CAP Équipier polyvalent du commerce is the usual reference qualification. A CACES certificate can be required to use some handling equipment, especially electric pallet jacks with a platform or forklifts in the reserve. Contracts are often part-time with early morning hours, which suits students. Supermarkets usually fall under the collective agreement for food retail and wholesale, which sets job levels and working time rules.
How to read these figures
The salary shown is an average, not a median: a few high salaries pull the average up. It is net pay before income tax, converted to full time.
The gross figure is an estimate: it applies 2026 employee contributions for a private-sector worker to the net salary. It leaves out bonuses, overtime and health insurance.
Salaries are from 2024 while the minimum wage is the 2026 one, so the comparison gives an order of magnitude.
