Quality engineer resume example

In France, ingénieur qualité covers several specialised roles, and job ads usually say which one. A supplier quality engineer qualifies suppliers, audits their processes and handles their non-conformities.

A customer quality engineer is the plant's voice towards a demanding customer, managing complaints, 8D reports and quality reviews. A project quality engineer works on new products, driving APQP deliverables, PPAP or first-article files, design and process FMEAs and control plans until series production. All of them analyse quality data, lead cross-functional problem solving and defend decisions such as stopping a delivery. The job is common in automotive, aerospace, rail, energy, electronics and medical devices, and it involves meetings in English in many international groups and travel to suppliers or customers.

Tips

  • Put your specialty in the title: supplier, customer, project or system quality.
  • Name the standards and customer requirements you worked under.
  • Show one complex problem solved with a cross-functional team.
  • Give your English level, often decisive in international groups.
  • Mention audit certifications if you hold them (VDA 6.3, ISO 9001 lead auditor).

Mistakes to avoid

  • A generic « quality engineer » title that hides your specialty.
  • Listing methods without any problem you solved with them.
  • Forgetting the industries and customers you know.
  • Writing a two-page resume full of documentation tasks and no results.

Working as a quality engineer in France

Search for ingénieur qualité, ingénieur qualité fournisseur, ingénieur qualité client, ingénieur qualité projet or ingénieur qualité système, depending on your specialty. Employers usually expect a diplôme d'ingénieur from a French school or a master's degree in quality, industrial engineering or a technical field; foreign degrees at the same level are generally accepted. The job is not regulated, but the title « ingénieur diplômé » is reserved for graduates of accredited programmes. Positions are typically under cadre status. Sector standards matter a great deal: IATF 16949 in automotive, EN 9100 in aerospace, ISO 13485 in medical devices. English is often required in international groups, with French needed on site.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an engineering degree to be hired as an ingénieur qualité?

Most ads ask for a diplôme d'ingénieur or a master's degree in quality or industrial engineering. Experienced quality technicians are sometimes promoted to the title. A foreign master's or engineering degree is generally accepted; the protected title in France is « ingénieur diplômé », not the job title.

Should I mention my auditor certifications?

Yes. VDA 6.3 process auditor, IATF 16949 or ISO 9001 lead auditor training are concrete signals, especially for supplier quality roles. Give the certificate name and year, and the number of audits you have led since if you track it.

How important is English?

Very important in automotive and aerospace groups, where customer portals, standards and many meetings are in English. Indicate your level honestly and mention any international project or customer you worked with.
