Wealth manager cover letter example

Firms hiring a wealth manager read the letter to judge two things: your technical depth and your ability to win and keep clients. Mention the client profiles you know, one advisory case you handled (anonymised) and how you work with notaries and accountants.

Subject: Application for the wealth manager position, [Company], [City]

Dear [Recruiter's name],

Business owners preparing to sell their company are the clients I have advised over the past [x] years, and they are the core of [Company]'s practice in [City]. I am therefore applying for your wealth manager position.

At [Previous Company], I followed a portfolio of around [x] households, mainly owners of SMEs and liberal professionals. Last year, I worked on the case of a couple selling their transport company: with their notary and accountant, we organised a gift of shares to their children before the sale and reinvested the proceeds through a holding company and assurance vie contracts. The project took eight months and the clients have since referred two of their friends.

I am AMF certified and keep my insurance training up to date each year. I write my recommendations in plain language, because most clients sign only when they understand the trade-offs. I also prepare the compliance file as I go, so audits do not become a burden.

I would like to bring this experience to a firm that gives priority to long-term advice. A meeting would let me show you how I prepare an asset review and a written recommendation.

Yours sincerely,[First Name Last Name][Phone][Email]

What to highlight

  • Your client segment and how you built or inherited it
  • One anonymised advisory case with the problem and the solution
  • Your regulatory status and certifications
  • Your network of partners: notaries, accountants, lawyers
  • Why this firm's approach or clientele fits you

Mistakes to avoid

  • Talking about products sold instead of advice given.
  • Mentioning real client names or details that could identify them.
  • Leaving out your certifications, which forces the recruiter to ask.
  • Claiming you will bring your previous clients, which can raise legal concerns.

Frequently asked questions

Should I mention a non-compete clause in my letter?

No, but be ready to discuss it in the interview. Many bank and firm contracts include non-solicitation clauses. Recruiters will ask, and an honest answer about what you can and cannot do with former clients builds more trust than vague promises.

How formal should the letter be?

Fairly formal. Wealth management in France remains a traditional sector, with clients who expect a classic tone. Use a standard French closing if you write in French, and keep the letter to one page. Clarity and correct spelling matter more than originality.

Is it worth applying as a junior to independent firms?

Yes, some independent firms take juniors, often from work-study programmes, to prepare asset reviews and support senior advisers. In your letter, show your technical training, your interest in a specific clientele and your willingness to learn the commercial side step by step.
