Your supplier quality engineer opening in [City] comes at the right time for me: I have held this role for [x] years at [Company], an aerospace equipment manufacturer, and the panel of machining and surface treatment suppliers you describe is very close to mine.

My job is to make sure supplier parts arrive compliant, and to help suppliers improve when they do not. Last year, one of our anodising subcontractors had repeated adhesion defects. Instead of multiplying inspections at reception, I organised a process audit on site with their quality manager, and we found a gap in the control of bath parameters. They introduced daily checks and documented them, and I followed their deliveries closely for several months before lifting the reinforced inspection.

I also manage first-article inspections according to EN 9102 and take part in supplier selection with purchasing. I work in English with suppliers abroad and travel regularly.

Should I write the letter in English or French?

Follow the language of the ad. If it is in French, write in French, even for an international group, and mention your English level. If the ad is in English, an English letter is fine, but expect part of the interview in French.

Can a production engineer apply for quality engineer roles?

Yes. Process knowledge is valued in quality, especially for project and customer roles. Show that you have already used quality tools such as FMEA, 8D or SPC in production and explain why you want to move to quality.

Is it worth mentioning cadre status expectations?

Not in the letter. Ingénieur qualité positions are usually cadre (managerial status) in France, and contract details are discussed later in the process. Use the letter for your experience and motivation.
