Maintenance electrician cover letter example

Your letter must reassure on safety before anything else, then show your troubleshooting method. Give your habilitation levels, the kind of installations you maintain and a fault you found.

Recruiters also check that you accept on-call duty when the ad mentions it.

Subject: Application for the Maintenance Electrician position, ref. [Reference]

Dear [Mr/Ms Last Name],

I am writing to apply for the maintenance electrician position at your [City] site. For [x] years I have maintained the electrical installations of [Company], a plant running continuously, and I would like to bring this experience to your maintenance team.

My daily work covers power and control circuits of production lines and utilities. When a compressor kept stopping at night without a clear alarm, I followed the control diagram and logged the voltages over several hours, then found an undersized auxiliary transformer that dropped out under load. Replacing it ended the stoppages. I also handle the corrective actions after the annual electrical inspection and update our diagrams after each modification.

I hold BR, B2V, BC and H0V habilitations, renewed in [year], and I prepare lockout procedures for contractors during shutdowns. I am part of the on-call rotation and comfortable intervening alone at night.

I can start after a [notice period] and would like to visit your installations during the interview.

Kind regards,[First Name Last Name][Phone] | [Email]

Mistakes to avoid

  • Not mentioning safety or lockout at all.
  • Listing habilitation symbols you no longer hold or have never been issued by an employer.
  • Writing a full page on motivation and nothing on installations.
  • Forgetting to adapt the letter to industry or tertiary buildings.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need French to work as a maintenance electrician?

In most cases, yes. Safety instructions, lockout procedures, diagrams and reports are in French, and you coordinate with operators and contractors. Some international sites use English documentation, but working French remains expected for safety reasons.

Can I apply without high-voltage experience?

Yes, if the ad lists high voltage as a plus. Say clearly which levels you hold and that you are ready to follow H training. Employers often train low-voltage electricians for HTA operations on their own substations.

Should the letter mention my CACES?

If the job involves aerial platforms or forklifts, yes: a CACES R486 for platforms is often useful for lighting and cable tray work. One line is enough, with the category and validity date.
