Joiner cover letter example

Workshop owners and installation companies want to know what you can make or fit without supervision. A good joiner's letter names products, materials and machines, and shows care for both the piece and the client's home.

Mention photos of your work, which often matter more than the letter itself.

Subject: Application for Joiner, workshop and installation

Dear [Owner's name],

What I enjoy most in this trade is following a piece from the drawing to the client's home, and your workshop does exactly that with its made-to-measure staircases and fitted furniture. I would like to apply for the joiner position at [Company].

I hold a CAP Menuisier fabricant and have worked for [x] years at [Company]. In the workshop, I prepare cutting lists, use the surfacer, thicknesser and spindle moulder, and run our CNC machine for repeated parts. I have made oak staircases, interior doors and fitted wardrobes. On site, I take measurements, install the pieces and adjust them so that doors close properly, even in older apartments where nothing is square.

I like working with solid wood, and I am interested in your restoration projects on period buildings, which I have only approached during my training. I hold a driving licence and I am used to protecting clients' homes during installation.

I can bring photos of my work and I would be glad to do a trial day in your workshop.

Yours sincerely,[First Name Last Name][Phone] | [Email]

Frequently asked questions

Should I send photos with my letter?

Yes, joiners are judged on their work. Attach a few clear photos or a link, and say what you did on each piece: design, machining, assembly, finishing or installation. Avoid sending work that was done mostly by a colleague.

Is a Compagnons du Devoir background worth mentioning?

Yes. Employers in France know the Tour de France of the Compagnons and associate it with high standards and varied experience. Mention the trade, the cities where you worked and the level reached in the programme.

How formal should the letter be?

Workshop owners appreciate a simple, polite letter. Use 'Madame' or 'Monsieur' if you write in French, keep it to a few paragraphs and avoid long sentences. The trial piece and the conversation in the workshop will do the rest.
