Community manager cover letter example

A community manager's cover letter is a writing sample. The marketing or communication manager reading it checks your tone, your spelling, and whether you have looked at their accounts.

Refer to a specific post or format of theirs and say what you would do next.

Subject: Candidature community manager, [Brand]

Hello [First name Last name],

I follow [Brand] on Instagram and noticed the series of behind-the-scenes videos in your workshop over the last few weeks. They generate more conversation than product shots, and that is exactly the kind of content I like to build. I am applying for the community manager position.

For two years I have managed the accounts of [Current employer], a [sector] brand, on Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn. I set up a weekly format with members of the team, which became our most shared content, and I wrote the moderation guide used with customer service to answer delivery questions in a consistent way.

For [Brand], I would suggest turning the workshop videos into a recurring rendezvous and answering the most frequent comments in short replies on video. My portfolio, with context for each campaign, is here: [link].

If you run a test exercise for this role, I would enjoy it: a week of posts for [Brand] is the best way for both of us to see whether my tone fits yours. [phone], [email].

Best regards,[First name Last name]

  • A format or campaign you created and why it worked

  • How you handle moderation and difficult comments
  • A link to your portfolio

Mistakes to avoid

  • A letter that could be sent to any brand, with no reference to its accounts.
  • Spelling or typing mistakes, read as a sign of careless posts to come.
  • Overloading the letter with emojis or slang to look creative.

Frequently asked questions

Can my letter be less formal than usual?

Slightly, if the brand's own tone is relaxed: a direct greeting and natural sentences are fine. Keep it clear and correct, though. The person reading may have to approve your posts later, and they want to see that you can adapt your register to the context.

Should I propose content ideas in the letter?

One or two short ideas based on their current accounts show that you have done your homework. Do not write a full strategy: you lack the internal data, and a recruiter may find it presumptuous. Keep the detailed proposals for the interview or a test exercise.

Is a video application a good idea?

For some consumer brands, a short, well-edited video can stand out, especially for TikTok-focused roles. Send it in addition to a written letter and CV, not instead of them, because the recruiter still needs to forward a readable file to the manager.
