Working as a vineyard worker in France
Ouvrier viticole is not a regulated job in France. Common diplomas are the CAPa Métiers de l'agriculture, the BPA, the Bac pro CGEV and the BTSA Viticulture-œnologie, but skilled pruners are hired without them. The Certiphyto certificate is needed for treatments. Seasonal work uses specific contracts, including the harvest contract (contrat vendanges), and social security is managed by the MSA. EU citizens can work freely; other nationals need a work authorisation. Search for « ouvrier viticole », « ouvrier de vigne », « tailleur de vigne », « tractoriste viticole » or « vendangeur ».
How to read these figures
The salary shown is an average, not a median: a few high salaries pull the average up. It is net pay before income tax, converted to full time.
The gross figure is an estimate: it applies 2026 employee contributions for a private-sector worker to the net salary. It leaves out bonuses, overtime and health insurance.
Salaries are from 2024 while the minimum wage is the 2026 one, so the comparison gives an order of magnitude.
