Working as a manufacturing engineering technician in France
Search for technicien méthodes, technicien méthodes industrialisation, préparateur méthodes, agent des méthodes or technicien process. The usual entry level is a Bac+2: BTS Conception des processus de réalisation de produits, BTS Conception des produits industriels, BUT Génie mécanique et productique or BUT Qualité, logistique industrielle et organisation. A Bac pro in mechanics or production plus several years as a setter or team leader is a common internal route, and adults retraining often go through a BTS in work-study or a CQPM from the metalworking industry. Titles to know: préparateur méthodes, agent des méthodes, méthodiste industrialisation, chronométreur analyseur. The job is not regulated. French employers expect at least working French, since you write instructions for operators, and mastery of CAD, CAM or ERP tools depending on the plant.
How to read these figures
The salary shown is an average, not a median: a few high salaries pull the average up. It is net pay before income tax, converted to full time.
The gross figure is an estimate: it applies 2026 employee contributions for a private-sector worker to the net salary. It leaves out bonuses, overtime and health insurance.
Salaries are from 2024 while the minimum wage is the 2026 one, so the comparison gives an order of magnitude.
