Working as a communications officer in France
Chargé de communication is not a regulated job. Employers often ask for a bac+3 to bac+5 in communication, political science or journalism (IEP, CELSA, university masters, business schools). In the public sector, you can be hired as a contractual employee or through the territorial civil service exams; competitive exams usually require EU nationality, while contractual posts are more open. Excellent written French is required for most roles. Search for « chargé de communication », « chargée de communication », « chargé de communication interne », « chargé de relations presse » or « chargé de communication et événementiel ».
How to read these figures
The salary shown is an average, not a median: a few high salaries pull the average up. It is net pay before income tax, converted to full time.
The gross figure is an estimate: it applies 2026 employee contributions for a private-sector worker to the net salary. It leaves out bonuses, overtime and health insurance.
Salaries are from 2024 while the minimum wage is the 2026 one, so the comparison gives an order of magnitude.
