Working as a buyer in France
Search for acheteur or acheteuse, acheteur industriel, acheteur projet, acheteur famille, acheteur hors production for indirect purchasing, and in public bodies acheteur public. The job is not regulated. Typical degrees are a master's in purchasing or supply chain, a business school degree, or an engineering degree for technical roles; a BTS or BUT followed by experience can lead there through the approvisionneur role. French law caps payment terms between companies and sets rules for annual negotiations with retail suppliers, which shape a buyer's contracts. Public buyers apply the Code de la commande publique. Most positions have cadre status, and English is commonly required in industry.
How to read these figures
The salary shown is an average, not a median: a few high salaries pull the average up. It is net pay before income tax, converted to full time.
The gross figure is an estimate: it applies 2026 employee contributions for a private-sector worker to the net salary. It leaves out bonuses, overtime and health insurance.
Salaries are from 2024 while the minimum wage is the 2026 one, so the comparison gives an order of magnitude.
