Working as an architect in France
The title « architecte » is protected in France. To use it and sign as project architect (for example on building permits above the legal floor-area threshold), you must be registered with the Ordre des architectes, which requires the Diplôme d'État d'architecte plus the HMONP, or a recognised foreign qualification. EU diplomas are usually recognised under European rules; other diplomas go through a recognition procedure. Without registration, you can still work as an employee. Search for architecte, architecte DE, architecte chef de projet, collaborateur d'architecte or architecte BIM. Fluency in French and knowledge of French building codes (PLU, RE2020, ERP rules) matter as much as design skills.
How to read these figures
The salary shown is an average, not a median: a few high salaries pull the average up. It is net pay before income tax, converted to full time.
The gross figure is an estimate: it applies 2026 employee contributions for a private-sector worker to the net salary. It leaves out bonuses, overtime and health insurance.
Salaries are from 2024 while the minimum wage is the 2026 one, so the comparison gives an order of magnitude.
