Working as an aircraft mechanic in France
Aircraft maintenance in France follows EASA rules. Certifying technicians need a Part-66 licence (A, B1, B2 or C categories) issued by the French authority, plus type ratings for the aircraft they sign off. Initial training goes through the CAP, Bac pro or BTS Aéronautique, apprenticeships and approved Part-147 schools. Non-EASA licences are not valid for certifying, though experience can count towards the licence. Airside work requires a security clearance and badge. Search for « mécanicien aéronautique », « mécanicien avion », « technicien B1 », « technicien avionique B2 » or « mécanicien de piste ».
How to read these figures
The salary shown is an average, not a median: a few high salaries pull the average up. It is net pay before income tax, converted to full time.
The gross figure is an estimate: it applies 2026 employee contributions for a private-sector worker to the net salary. It leaves out bonuses, overtime and health insurance.
Salaries are from 2024 while the minimum wage is the 2026 one, so the comparison gives an order of magnitude.
