Working as an accounts clerk in France
The job is not regulated. Employers usually ask for a BTS Comptabilité et gestion, a BUT GEA or the Titre professionnel comptable assistant; many clerks then study for the DCG to become comptable. Entries are booked under the Plan comptable général with its numbered accounts (401 for suppliers, 411 for customers, 512 for the bank), and French VAT rules apply, so a recruiter will want to see that you know this framework rather than IFRS or US GAAP habits. The e-invoicing reform, under way since September 2026, is shifting daily tasks from typing to checking. Search for 'aide-comptable', 'comptable fournisseurs', 'assistant comptable', 'collaborateur comptable junior' or 'gestionnaire comptable'.
How to read these figures
The salary shown is an average, not a median: a few high salaries pull the average up. It is net pay before income tax, converted to full time.
The gross figure is an estimate: it applies 2026 employee contributions for a private-sector worker to the net salary. It leaves out bonuses, overtime and health insurance.
Salaries are from 2024 while the minimum wage is the 2026 one, so the comparison gives an order of magnitude.
