Web copywriter resume example

A web copywriter writes the text people read on websites, product pages, blogs and newsletters, with two readers in mind: the human visitor and the search engine.

A normal day starts from a brief or a keyword list. You check what already ranks for the query, plan headings, write the article or page, add internal links and a meta description, then publish it in the CMS or send it for review. Between articles you rewrite old pages that have lost traffic, adapt product descriptions for an online shop, or turn an expert's notes into something a beginner can follow. Many web copywriters in France work freelance for agencies and brands; others sit in a content team and follow an editorial calendar.

Tips

  • Link to a portfolio of published pages, not only PDF samples: recruiters want to see your text live and indexed.
  • Group your samples by sector or format (blog, product pages, landing pages) so a recruiter finds the relevant ones fast.
  • Say which tools you use for research and tracking, since many briefs assume them.
  • If you write in French and English, state which is native and whether you translate or write directly.
  • Keep the CV itself well written and free of filler; it is your first writing sample.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Presenting AI-generated samples as your own work, which editors spot quickly.
  • Claiming SEO expertise without a single example of a page you improved.
  • Listing 'creativity' and 'writing skills' as soft skills, which say nothing for this job.
  • Leaving typos in the CV or portfolio.

Working as a web copywriter in France

Search for 'Rédacteur web' or 'Rédactrice web', and also 'Rédacteur SEO', 'Content manager' or 'Concepteur-rédacteur' for more advertising-oriented roles. The profession is not regulated and no diploma is required, though many come from communication, journalism or literature degrees. A large share of web copywriters work as freelancers under the micro-entrepreneur status, selling to agencies and brands, so a portfolio and a professional website matter as much as a CV. For French-language content, clients expect native-level written French with correct spelling and typography; English-native writers find more openings in translation, localisation or English content for exporting companies.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a degree to work as a web copywriter in France?

No degree is required. Many copywriters come from literature, journalism, communication or another career entirely. Clients and agencies judge mainly on samples, the quality of your French and your understanding of how search engines treat content.

Should I include word counts or rates on my CV?

Not on the CV. Rates belong in a quote or a conversation with the client. On the CV, describe the formats you master and the sectors you know, and let the portfolio show volume and range.

How do I present AI tools in my experience?

Be honest and specific. If you use AI for research or outlines, say so and explain how you check facts and rewrite. Clients mostly want to know that the final text is accurate and sounds human.
