Production operator resume example

A production operator runs a machine, a line or a robotic cell in a factory, following a production order (ordre de fabrication) that sets the part reference, quantity and quality checks.

At the start of a shift you read the handover notes from the previous team, check the safety devices and load raw material or components. Then you watch the cycle, measure parts at set intervals with a caliper or gauge, and record results on the control sheet or the screen. When the machine alarms, you clear simple faults yourself and call maintenance for the rest. Many sites run in 2x8 or 3x8 shifts, with weekends on some lines, in automotive, aeronautics, plastics, food or cosmetics plants.

Tips

  • Name the industry and the type of machines: press, CNC lathe, filling line, assembly robot.
  • State the shift patterns you have worked (2x8, 3x8, nights, weekends).
  • Put CACES and electrical habilitations at the top: they can decide the hiring.
  • Mention quality tools and checks you performed yourself.
  • Include temp assignments with company names: they count as real experience.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Writing only « production operator » without the product or machines.
  • Leaving out temp missions, which leaves gaps on the resume.
  • Forgetting availability for shifts and nights.
  • Listing certificates without category or expiry date.

Working as a production operator in France

In France, search for opérateur de production, agent de production, agent de fabrication, conducteur de ligne or opérateur sur machine. No diploma is legally required, and many plants hire through temp agencies (intérim) before offering a permanent contract. A CAP, Bac pro Pilote de ligne de production or an industry CQP helps you progress. Some positions require a CACES R489 (forklifts) or R485 (pedestrian stackers), and an electrical habilitation for certain interventions, both obtained through short training. Shift work (2x8, 3x8, nights, weekends) is common and usually comes with shift allowances defined by the collective agreement. Basic French is needed to read work instructions and safety notices.

Frequently asked questions

How do I list many short temp assignments?

Group them under one heading, for example « Temporary assignments via [agency], [period] », then list the plants and the type of work in bullets. This shows continuity and variety without filling the page. Highlight the longest or most technical missions first.

Is a diploma required to be a production operator?

No. Many operators start without a diploma and are trained on site. A CAP or Bac pro in industrial fields helps, especially to move towards machine setting or line leader roles. Certificates such as the CACES are often more useful than a diploma for this job.

Should I mention night shift availability?

Yes, clearly. Many plants run 24 hours a day, and availability for 3x8 or nights can make the difference between two candidates. If you have constraints, state what you can accept, for example 2x8 only, so the recruiter matches you with the right line.
