Ambulance technician resume example

An ambulance technician in France (ambulancier) works in a crew of two and does far more planned transport than emergencies. A typical day mixes dialysis and radiotherapy runs, hospital discharges, transfers between units and, on call, urgent missions sent by the SAMU control room (centre 15).

On each mission you check the transport order, move the patient onto the stretcher with the right technique, settle and secure them, then monitor them during the trip: breathing, pulse, saturation, pain, how they react. In an emergency you give first aid within your role, report the patient's condition to the regulating doctor and follow instructions. Back at base, the vehicle is cleaned and disinfected, oxygen and equipment are checked, and the mission record is completed. Private companies also run lighter vehicles (VSL) for seated patients.

Career change

Former volunteer firefighter who completed the Diplôme d'État d'ambulancier. I bring field experience with emergencies and teamwork in a crew, and I am now looking for a full-time position in patient transport.

Tips

  • Write 'Diplôme d'État d'ambulancier' and the year at the top, with your driving licence and the prefecture approval.
  • Specify whether you have worked with the SAMU on-call system or in a hospital SMUR.
  • List your licence categories (B, sometimes C) and any accident-free record you can document.
  • Mention AFGSU and other emergency training with dates.
  • Show whether you have been chef de bord, which recruiters value.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Mixing up auxiliaire ambulancier and ambulancier diplômé on the resume.
  • Omitting the date your licence was issued, which matters for the approval.
  • Writing only about emergencies when most work is planned transport.

Working as an ambulance technician in France

Search for ambulancier or ambulancière, ambulancier diplômé d'État, ambulancier SMUR in hospitals, and auxiliaire ambulancier for the second crew member. The profession is regulated. You need the Diplôme d'État d'ambulancier (DEA), prepared in an IFA training institute, a category B licence held beyond the probationary period, a prefecture approval to drive ambulances, and a medical certificate with required vaccinations. The auxiliaire ambulancier role needs a short training course and the same approval, but not the diploma. Some heavier medical vehicles require a C licence. Hospital SMUR posts are usually filled by ambulanciers with several years in private companies.

Frequently asked questions

Can I work as an ambulance technician in France with a foreign qualification?

The profession is regulated. EU qualifications can be assessed for authorisation to practise; other diplomas usually do not transfer, and candidates take the French DEA. Your licence must also be valid in France, and you need the prefecture approval to drive an ambulance.

What is an auxiliaire ambulancier?

It is the second crew member, who has followed a short training course and holds the prefecture approval but not the State diploma. An auxiliaire drives or assists, while the diploma holder is responsible for the patient's care in the back. Many start as auxiliaire before taking the DEA.

How do I show SAMU on-call experience on a resume?

Name the on-call system you took part in (garde ambulancière départementale), the sector covered and your role in the crew. Recruiters want to know that you have handled calls passed by the centre 15 and reported to a regulating doctor, not only planned transport.
