Electrician cover letter example

The employer is usually the owner of a small electrical firm or a works manager. They want to know your qualifications, your habilitation, the type of sites you have done and whether you can work autonomously.

Be concrete and brief.

Subject: Candidature électricien du bâtiment, [City]

Dear [Mr/Ms Last name],

I am applying for the electrician position at [Company]. I have a Bac pro MELEC and [x] years of experience at [Current employer], mainly in residential renovation and new builds around [City]. I hold the habilitation B1V-B2V-BR.

I install complete systems from plans: conduits, cable pulling, boards and final checks before Consuel inspection. In renovation, I have often replaced old installations in occupied homes, which requires organising the work so that families keep a minimum of power each evening. Last year, I was trained to install electric vehicle charging points and carried out several installations for private clients.

Your company works for individuals and small businesses, which suits me because I like explaining the work to clients and being responsible for a site from start to finish. I have a driving licence and can travel within the area.

I can start on [date]. If you would like to check my work, I am glad to spend a day on one of your renovation sites. Phone: [phone], email: [email].

Kind regards,[First name Last name]

What to highlight

  • Diploma and habilitation levels
  • Types of installations you completed
  • Specific qualifications (IRVE, photovoltaic)
  • Autonomy and client relationship
  • Driving licence and availability

Mistakes to avoid

  • Writing « habilitation électrique » without the levels, which is the first thing the employer looks for.
  • Writing a long letter about motivation without describing installations.
  • Ignoring the company's sector (residential, tertiary, industrial).
  • Forgetting your availability and phone number.

Frequently asked questions

Should I attach my habilitation certificate?

Not to the first email: listing your levels (for example B1V, B2V, BR) is enough. The habilitation is issued by each employer, so a new company will retrain or at least re-assess you before signing a new title. Keep your training certificates and IRVE attestation in PDF, because the firm will ask for them before your first site.

How do I apply for an electrical apprenticeship?

Choose the diploma first (CAP électricien, then Bac pro MELEC or BP), then the CFA, which often shares lists of firms looking for apprentices. In your message, show that you are careful: a project you wired at home under supervision, a summer job with an artisan. Firms worry above all about an apprentice's safety on site.

Should I mention on-call availability?

If the job includes maintenance or breakdown service, yes. Firms working for shops, offices or residences need electricians who can respond to emergency calls in the evening or at weekends, and stating that you accept on-call periods can make the difference.
