Electrician resume example

An electrician in France (électricien or électricienne du bâtiment) installs and maintains electrical systems in homes, offices, shops and industrial buildings.

On a new build, you lay conduits before the concrete is poured, pull cables, fit boxes and switches, and wire the distribution board according to the NF C 15-100 standard. In renovation, the work starts with diagnosing an old installation, often without proper earthing, and replacing it while the occupants still need power. Other days bring troubleshooting a tripped circuit, installing a heat pump connection, a charging point for an electric vehicle, lighting for a shop or an intercom system. Industrial electricians work on motors, control panels and automation. In every case, you work under an electrical authorisation and follow strict lockout procedures before touching any circuit.

Tips

  • List your habilitation électrique levels precisely (B1V, B2V, BR, BC, H0V).
  • Specify the sector: residential, tertiary, industrial.
  • Mention qualifications like IRVE or photovoltaic installation if you hold them.
  • Name the types of installations you completed, not just tasks.
  • Include your driving licence, as most jobs require travel.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Forgetting to mention your habilitation électrique.
  • Not stating whether you work alone or in a team.
  • Mixing industrial and building experience without distinction.
  • Overstating responsibility for sites led by someone else.

Working as an electrician in France

Working as an employed electrician is not a regulated title, but you need an habilitation électrique (NF C 18-510), issued by the employer after training, to work on or near installations. Common diplomas are the CAP électricien, the Bac pro MELEC, the BP électricien and the BTS électrotechnique, as well as titres professionnels. To set up as an artisan électricien you must hold a diploma in the trade or prove three years of experience. New home installations need a Consuel certificate of conformity before the grid connection. Charging points above a certain power require an IRVE qualification, and solar work often QualiPV. Search for « électricien », « électricien du bâtiment », « électricien tertiaire », « électricien industriel » or « chef d'équipe électricien ».

Frequently asked questions

What is habilitation électrique?

It is an authorisation given by your employer after training, which states which electrical work you are allowed to do under the NF C 18-510 standard. Levels such as B1V, B2V, BR or BC describe the operations allowed. It must be renewed regularly and is required for almost every electrician job.

Are foreign electrical qualifications recognised?

Employers value the experience, but they will not let you work without a French habilitation électrique, which your new employer organises after a short training. Expect questions on NF C 15-100 rules that differ from other countries: bathroom zones, number of outlets per circuit, mandatory 30 mA residual current devices. A titre professionnel « Électricien d'équipement du bâtiment » then gives you a French diploma.

Is it useful to mention IRVE qualification?

Yes. Installing charging points above a certain power requires a specific IRVE qualification for the company and trained installers. It is in demand with the growth of electric vehicles, so mention it at the top of your skills if you hold it.
