Digital project manager cover letter example

A digital project manager's letter is a sample of how you communicate with clients: clear, structured and focused on the result.

Recruiters look for one project you carried from brief to launch, how you handled a difficulty such as late scope changes, and your understanding of their type of projects, whether agency work for several clients or one large internal platform.

Subject: Application for the Digital Project Manager position

Dear [Hiring Manager's name],

Your ad for a Digital Project Manager at [Agency] mentions e-commerce projects for retail brands. I have followed your work for [Client] and [Client], and this is the field I have worked in for the past [x] years at [Company].

My most recent project was the redesign of a home furnishing brand's online store. The client wanted a new design, a new product catalogue structure and a connection to their stock system, all before the autumn sales. I split the project into two releases so the new catalogue went live first, wrote the user stories with the client's e-commerce team and ran acceptance testing sessions every Friday. Three weeks before launch, the client asked for a new delivery option; I documented its cost and impact on the schedule, and we agreed to move it to the second release.

I also coordinated an accessibility audit on the site and followed the fixes with the developers until the main RGAA criteria were met. This experience taught me to plan accessibility from the design stage rather than at the end.

I would be glad to show you the specifications and acceptance test plan from this project during an interview.

Kind regards,[First name Last name][Phone] | [Email] | [Portfolio link]

What to highlight

  • A project delivered from brief to launch, with your exact role
  • How you handled a difficult client or stakeholder
  • Your methods for planning, specifications and acceptance testing
  • Experience with the company's type of platform or sector
  • Attention to accessibility, performance and data protection

Mistakes to avoid

  • A generic letter that could apply to any project management role.
  • Saying you are « passionate about digital » without a single project.
  • Not adapting the letter to the agency's or company's clients and sector.
  • Promising that every launch date was met, when recruiters know late scope changes are part of the job and want to hear how you handled them.

Frequently asked questions

Should I mention agencies' clients by name?

Yes, if the work is public and you are not bound by confidentiality. Brand names make your experience concrete and easy to check. If a project is confidential, describe the sector and the type of site instead, for example a regional bank's customer portal.

How do I apply without project management experience?

Present projects where you coordinated people and deadlines, even outside a formal title: a website you managed as a marketing assistant, a student association's platform, an internship where you wrote specifications. Show that you can organise work and follow it to the end.

Should I mention accessibility in my letter?

Yes if you have worked on it, even partially. Public bodies and large companies must follow the RGAA, and the European Accessibility Act now covers many e-commerce sites, so clients ask agencies about it. One sentence on an audit you followed or fixes you prioritised is enough; avoid claiming full compliance you cannot prove.
