Accounting manager cover letter example

Finance directors hiring a responsable comptable want reassurance on three points: reliable closings, smooth audits and a team that runs well.

Your letter should give one or two concrete examples on each, and show you understand the company's current situation, whether growth, a new ERP or the e-invoicing deadline.

Subject: Application: Responsable comptable, [Company]

Dear [Finance director's name],

Your offer for a responsable comptable at [Company] explains that the team is being restructured after the acquisition of [Subsidiary] and that the closing calendar needs to be tightened. That is precisely what I have worked on for the past [x] years.

At [Current company], a [sector] business with [x] entities, I manage a team of [x] accountants. When I arrived, the monthly closing took [x] working days and the auditors regularly raised the same points. I rewrote the closing calendar, assigned clear owners to each reconciliation and introduced a review checklist. The closing now takes [x] days and the last two audits were completed without significant adjustments.

I produce the annual accounts and liasse fiscale, calculate corporate tax with our tax advisers and deliver the monthly IFRS package to the group. Last year, I led the accounting side of our ERP migration and am now preparing the team for e-invoicing, with a focus on supplier invoice processing.

I see the role as keeping figures reliable while helping the team grow. I have recruited and trained [x] people and enjoy explaining accounting choices to operational managers.

I would be pleased to discuss your plans for the team.

Yours sincerely,[First name Last name]

Frequently asked questions

Should I give figures about closing time or team size?

Yes, they make your experience concrete. If you are unsure about sharing exact numbers, use placeholders or approximate scales. Finance directors appreciate measurable improvements, such as a shorter closing or fewer audit adjustments.

How should I address the e-invoicing reform?

If you have worked on it, say what you did: platform choice, supplier data cleaning, process redesign. If not, show you know the timeline and its effect on accounts payable and receivable, and that you would include it in your priorities.

Is it useful to mention software in the letter?

Briefly, yes, especially if the ad names an ERP you know. Do not list every tool: one sentence naming the main system and a project you led on it is enough. The CV can carry the full list.
