Production team leader resume example

A chef d'équipe in a French factory runs one shift on the shop floor while still knowing the machines well enough to step in. The shift starts with the handover from the previous team: breakdowns, quality alerts, orders that slipped.

You then hold a short briefing at the line board, assign operators to stations according to their skills and absences, and launch the production plan from the GPAO system. During the shift you check first parts, react when a line stops, call maintenance or fix small issues yourself, and record scrap and downtime. You also train new operators and temporary workers, enforce safety rules and wearing of PPE, and write the shift report. Most plants run in 2x8 or 3x8 rotations, so night and weekend shifts are common.

Career change

Former army non-commissioned officer moving into industry after a CQP Animateur d'équipe. I bring experience leading teams on rotating schedules, enforcing safety procedures and writing clear handover reports, and I completed a training period on an assembly line to learn the technical side.

Tips

  • Give the size of your team, the shift pattern and the type of production (continuous, series, assembly).
  • Name the indicators you were accountable for: OEE, scrap rate, safety, on-time delivery.
  • Mention the sector standards you worked under, such as IATF 16949, BRC/IFS or GMP in pharma.
  • Show one concrete improvement you led, with the tool used (SMED, 5S, 8D).
  • If you are a technician first, say which machines or processes you can set up yourself.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Describing yourself as a manager without saying how many people you led and on which shift.
  • Forgetting the technical part: French plants expect team leaders to know the process.
  • Listing lean buzzwords with no example of their use on your line.
  • Hiding night shift experience, which is often a requirement.

Working as a production team leader in France

The job is not regulated in France. Employers look for a Bac pro Pilote de ligne de production, a BTS Pilotage de procédés or CRSA, or a CAP in mechanics or electrical work backed by shop floor experience; many plants also promote operators internally, sometimes with a CQP. You will often need an habilitation électrique if you intervene on equipment, and you must know the French rules on working hours and night work for your team. Fluent spoken French is needed to brief operators. Search for « chef d'équipe production », « chef d'équipe en industrie », « animateur d'équipe » or « superviseur de production ».

Frequently asked questions

Is chef d'équipe the same job as chef d'atelier?

Not quite. A chef d'équipe leads one team on one shift and is close to the machines. A chef d'atelier or responsable de production supervises several team leaders and the whole workshop over all shifts, with more planning and budget work. Many people move from the first role to the second after a few years.

Do I need a specific diploma to become a team leader?

No diploma is legally required. Plants often promote experienced operators or setters, sometimes with a CQP. External hires usually have a Bac pro Pilote de ligne de production or a BTS such as Pilotage de procédés or CRSA, plus experience on similar processes.

Should I put my shift availability on my resume?

Yes, briefly. A line such as « available for 3x8 and weekend shifts » saves the recruiter a question, because rotating schedules are standard in French industry. If you can only work certain shifts, say so in the interview rather than on the resume.
