Order picker resume example

An order picker collects products from warehouse locations to build customer orders: cartons for shops, pallets for supermarkets, parcels for online shoppers.

You receive the order list on a handheld scanner or through a voice-picking headset that tells you the aisle, the location and the quantity. You drive an electric pallet truck along the aisles, scan or confirm each item, stack the pallet so heavy goods sit at the bottom, then film and label it for the shipping dock. Accuracy and pace are measured, so mistakes on quantities or references show up quickly. Some warehouses are refrigerated or frozen (food retail), and many work early mornings, afternoons or nights depending on delivery schedules.

Tips

  • List your CACES with category and date.
  • Mention cold-store experience if you have it: many food warehouses ask for it.
  • Give an idea of accuracy or productivity with placeholders, without inventing figures.
  • Indicate the shifts you accept: morning, afternoon, night, weekends.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Writing « warehouse worker » without describing picking.
  • Forgetting the CACES category.
  • Hiding temp assignments instead of grouping them.
  • Not saying which shifts you can work.

Working as an order picker in France

In France, search for préparateur de commandes or préparatrice de commandes, préparateur logistique, agent de préparation or préparateur e-commerce. No diploma is required, but the CAP Opérateur/opératrice logistique, the Bac pro Logistique and the Titre professionnel Préparateur de commandes en entrepôt are recognised routes. Driving electric pallet trucks or stackers requires a driving authorisation from the employer, usually based on a CACES R489 category 1A or 1B. Temp agencies (intérim) handle a large share of hiring, particularly before year-end peaks. Shifts often start very early or run at night, and cold-store work comes with protective clothing and specific breaks.

Frequently asked questions

Should I mention productivity figures on my resume?

Only if you know them and they are reliable, for example « met the team picking target throughout the season ». Do not invent numbers: recruiters in logistics know typical rates and can check with the warehouse. A statement about accuracy is often more convincing than a speed figure.

Is the CACES compulsory to be an order picker?

Not always, but most warehouses ask for at least the CACES R489 category 1A or 1B for electric pallet trucks. Without it, the employer must train you and give you a driving authorisation. Holding it already makes you available faster, especially through temp agencies.

How do I present seasonal peaks like Christmas?

List them as temp assignments with the period and the type of warehouse, for example « Christmas peak, e-commerce warehouse, picking and packing ». Peak seasons show you can handle high volume, and agencies often rehire pickers who did well.
